Talkin’ Traffic
With Colorado's growing population, the state’s traffic safety is threatened by unprecedented road occupancy, and many new rule breakers moving into the square state. Here are several campaigns I’ve had the opportunity to concept and write for under the Colorado Department of Transportation.
Your excuse to speed does not exist
Approach (Speeding): The Achilles’ heel of a government message is sounding governmental. To ensure our tone of voice avoided an authoritative feel, my art partner and I encoded the ‘Don’t Speed’ message with a satirical take on action films and playful imagery depicting the fantastical situations that would constitute the act of speeding. This is one of my favorite radio scripts I’ve written to date. And to be clear, I think aliens do exist; aliens were just a public-domain entity to feature on a billboard.
Buckle Up, or miss out
Approach (Seatbelts): I was asked to refresh some copy for the “Reasons to Buckle Up” campaign. I really enjoyed this exercise as it involved empathizing with Colorado residents and thinking about what the modern human looks forward to. The sentiment of buckling your seatbelt so you don’t miss out is one I felt proud to chime in on. One of my two displayed headlines might have been a letdown for those that watch football.
